Resumen del eBook

The memoir of an entire century, this novel adds a new, original chapter to Julia Navarros best-selling career.Tell Me Who I Amsurprises and enchants with a captivating and heartrending story. This is a novel about memory and identity with an exceptionally well-drawn and unforgettable literary character: a woman who through out her extraordinary life was able to achieve the highly difficult feat of knowing herself. A victim of her mistakes, aware of her guilt, frightened by her traumas, she is above all an anti-heroine, a flesh-and-blood woman who always acts according to her principles, facing up to every challenge and making errors for which she will never fully pay. A woman who decided that she couldnt be neutral in this life.Navarros most personal novel surprises for its melodrama and the raw emotions transmitted by many of its stories. It is filled with pure adventure, introspection and political chronicle. From the tumultuous years of the Second Spanish Republic to the fall of the Berlin Wall, including World War II and the Cold War, these pages are packed with intrigue, emotion, politics, espionage, love, betrayal and settings like Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, Buenos Aires, Mexico, Moscow, London, Berlin and Warsaw with brief stopovers in The Basque Country, Cairo, Athens, Lisbon and New York. ... OLIVER TWIST (EBOOK)
Fecha Lanzamiento: 26/11/2014
DICKENS CHARLES

Resumen del eBook

Oliver Twist, subtitled The Parish Boys Progress, is the second novel by English author Charles Dickens, published by RichardBentley in 1838. The story is about an orphan, Oliver Twist, who endures a miserable existence in a workhouse and then is placed with an undertaker. He escapes and travels to London where he meets the Artful Dodger, leader of a gang of juvenile pickpockets. Naively unaware of their unlawful activities, Oliver is led to the lair of their elderly criminal trainer Fagin. Oliver Twist is notable for Dickenss unromantic portrayal of criminals and their sordid lives. The book exposed the cruel treatment of the many orphans in London during the Dickensian era. The books subtitle, The Parish Boys Progress, alludes to Bunyans The Pilgrims Progress and also to a pair of popular 18th-century caricature series by William Hogarth, A Rakes Progress and A Harlots Progress. An early example of the social novel, the book calls the publics attention to various contemporary evils, including child labour, the recruitment of children as criminals, and the presence of street children. Dickens mocks the hypocrisies of his time by surrounding the novels serious themes with sarcasm and dark humour. The novel may have been inspired by the story of Robert Blincoe, an orphan whose account of hardships as a child labourer in a cotton mill was widely read in the 1830s. It is likely that Dickenss own early youth as a child labourer contributed to the storys development. Oliver Twist has been the subject of numerous film and television adaptations, and is the basis for a highly successful musical play and the multiple Academy Award winning 1968 motion picture made from it. ... DUBLINERS (EBOOK)
Fecha Lanzamiento: 24/11/2014
JAMES JOYCE

Resumen del eBook

Dubliners is a collection of 15 short stories by James Joyce, first published in 1914. They form a naturalistic depiction of Irish middle class life in and around Dublin in the early years of the 20th century. The stories were written when Irish nationalism was at its peak, and a search for a national identity and purpose w as raging; at a crossroads of history and culture, Ireland was jolted by various converging ideas and influences. They centre on Joyces idea of an epiphany: a moment where a character experiences self-understanding or illumination. Many of the characters in Dubliners later appear in minor roles in Joyces novel Ulysses. The initial stories in the collection are narrated by child protagonists, and as the stories continue, they deal with the lives and concerns of progressively older people. This is in line with Joyces tripartite division of the collection into childhood, adolescence and maturity. ... Leer resumen completo

DAVID COPPERFIELD (EBOOK)
Fecha Lanzamiento: 27/11/2014
DICKENS CHARLES

Resumen del eBook

The story traces the life of David Copperfield from childhood to maturity. David was born in Blunderstone, Suffolk, near Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England, in 1820, six months after the death of his father. David spends his early years in relative happiness with his loving but frail mother and their kindly housekeeper, Peggo tty. When he is seven years old his mother marries Edward Murdstone. David is given good reason to dislike hisstepfather and has similar feelings for Murdstones sister Jane, who moves into the house soon afterwards. Murdstone attempts to thrash David for falling behind in his studies. David bites him and soon afterwards is sent away to a boarding school, Salem House, with a ruthless headmaster, Mr. Creakle. There he befriends James Steerforth and Tommy Traddles.David returns home for the holidays to learn that his mother has given birth to a baby boy. Shortly after David returns to Salem House, his mother and her baby die, and David returns home immediately. Peggotty marries a man named Mr Barkis. Murdstone sends David to work for a wine merchant in London a business of which Murdstone is a joint owner.[4]Copperfields landlord, Wilkins Micawber, is sent to debtors prison (the Kings Bench Prison) and remains there for several months before being released and moving to Plymouth. No one remains to care for David in London, so he decides to run away.He walks from London to Dover, where he finds his only relative, his unmarried, eccentric great-aunt Betsey Trotwood. She agrees to raise him, despite Murdstones attempt to regain custody of David. Davids great-aunt renames him"Trotwood Copperfield"and addresses him as"Trot", and it becomes one of several names to which David answers in the course of the novel. As David grows to adulthood, a variety of characters enter, leave, and re-enter his life. These include Peggotty and her family, including her orphaned niece"Little Emly", who moves in with them and charms the young David. Davids romantic but self-serving school friend, Steerforth, seduces and dishonours Emily, precipitating the novels greatest tragedy, and Agnes Wickfield, the daughter of Davids landlord, becomes his confidante. The novels two most familiar characters are Davids sometime mentor, the debt-ridden Micawber, and the devious and fraudulent clerk, Uriah Heep, whose misdeeds are eventually revealed with Micawbers assistance. Micawber is painted sympatheticallyeven as the narrator deplores his financial ineptitude. Micawber, like Dickenss own father, is briefly imprisoned for insolvency. The major characters eventually get some measure of what they deserve, and few narrative threads are left hanging. Peggottys brother Dan takes Emily to a new life in Australia, accompanied by the widowed Mrs. Gummidge and the Micawbers. All eventually find security and happiness in their adopted country. David marries the beautiful but naive Dora Spenlow, who dies after failing to recover from a miscarriage early ... Leer resumen completo

METTERNICH, JEFFERSON AND THE ENLIGHTENMENT: STATECRAFT AND POLITICAL THEORY IN THE EARLY NINETEENTH CENTURY (EBOOK)
Fecha Lanzamiento: 01/07/2014
JAMES R. SOFKA

... The bullying that our young people face every day in their schools, on their playgrounds and even in their homes leads to a host of social and personal maladies. Author Kevin Bailey wrote Anthony Meets The Playground Bully to aid in the elimination of bullying in all of its forms. Anthony is a young boy who is faced with one of childrens biggest fears: the playground bully. Today, Anthony must rescue his best pal Ryan from the clutches of said tyrant. One major problem: The bully is much larger than both he and Ryan, so Anthony realizes that he must use his brain, not his fists, to be successful. Take an interesting journey with Anthony and his pals to see just how cleverly our hero sets about his rescue. For every parent or child who has ever had to deal with a bully, this is a must-read. The authors intent, however, is that this not be just the standard David and Goliath story. He accomplishes this by sharing insight on what may cause an individual to bully in the first place.
