Sinopsis

"Grammar World" is an illustrated reference and practice book for students from elementary to intermediate level. It can be used in the classroom to provide a comprehensive grammar course, for reference, for self-study or as supplementary material. It is also ideal for homework and revision. The material is organised: in clear grammatical categories: present, past and future tenses, modals, articles, nouns, pronouns, sentence structure, prepositions, more about verbs, the passive and conditionals; in 112 units, each one focusing on an area of grammar, special attention is paid to those points which are the most common source of errors; frequent Grammar Review Sections, containing a concise summary for quick revision and exercises, which consolidate the grammar points learnt in the previous units; final Exit Tests which enable the student or teacher to check that the main grammar points have been understood; Appendices on spelling, irregular verbs, layout for letter-writing etc. for quick and easy reference; a separate Answer Key to all the exercises; a CD-Rom containing 350 self-assessment exercises; a floppy disk for the teacher which contains tests for the classroom. Each grammar area is clearly presented and explained with illustrations to aid comprehension. Most units have three pages of exercises which take the students step by step through the grammar. The exercises are enjoyable, often amusing and contextualised, and offer recurring storylines throughout the volume. Most units also contain open exercises which give students the opportunity to practise the grammar in a less controlled way. They enable the students to begin to apply their grammatical knowledge to individual self-expression. They are ideal for classroom use with those students who require the challenge of less guided work. "Grammar World" covers the complete grammar syllabus for the Cambridge Preliminary English Test and includes exam-style exercises. It also helps those beginning to prepare for the Cambridge First Certificate.
