Filósofa y teórica del feminismo, es una de las pensadoras feministas más importantes de la actualidad abanderando el llamado "feminismo de la igualdad". Imparte su cátedra en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Hasta 1993 dirigío el Instituto de Investigaciones Feministas.
Su libro Hacia una crítica de la razón patriarcal constituye un nuevo enfoque desde la perspectiva de genero de la filosofía, poniendo de manifiesto los sesgos androcéntricos y reivindica una revisión crítica por parte de las mujeres de la misma. Del legado filosófico reivindica los valores de la Ilustración: libertad, autonomía, igualdad, lucha de la razón contra el prejuicio, como como elementos que posibilitaran la aparición del pensamiento feminista
