When hikers Lucian Rook and Elara Quinn set out to explore the remote trails of Black Canyon, they expect nothing more than a quiet weekend away from the noise of the city. Instead, they stumble upon a series of strange symbols carved deep into the canyon walls, markings too precise to be natural and too old to be recent graffiti. As Lucian and Elara begin to piece the carvings together, they realize the marks are not ancient at all. They are a code, and someone has been using the cliffs to pass messages for a very long time.
What starts as an amateur puzzle quickly turns dangerous when the pair realizes the cipher points to something far more sinister than a forgotten local legend. Someone is still watching the canyon, and someone does not want the message read. Racing against people who will do anything to keep their secret buried in stone, Lucian and Elara are pulled into a modern-day crime ring hiding in plain sight, disguised as nothing more than rock and shadow.
