Dagmar Geisler nació en 1958 en Siegen, Renania del Norte-Westfalia. Se crió en Hessia y en la actualidad vive cerca de Munich junto a su familia. Entre 1979 y 1984 estudió en la Universidad de Wiesbaden. Realizó sus primeros trabajos como ilustradora, mientras realizaba sus estudios, en el departamento gráfico de ZDF. Después trabajó como maquetadota de foto estudio, en un estudio de animación y más tarde como ilustradora para los periódicos alemanes Frankfurter Rundschau y Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, así como para la cadena de televisión RTL. Como historietista también publicó varios de sus trabajos en el Journal Frankfurt y esporádicamente en otros diarios. Entre 1985 y 1991 trabajó para la institución cultural de Frankfurt Romanfabrik. Coincidió esa época con sus inicios como autora de literatura infantil. En 1987 publicó su primer libro ilustrado junto al reconocido escritor Manfred Mai. Desde entonces no ha parado y cuenta con más de medio centenar de títulos publicados. Su trabajo ha sido merecedor de diferentes distinciones en su país de origen, como el segundo premio Stiftung Buchkunst 2003 y el Penzberger Urmel 2007.
