Rejected himself by his first girlfriend he drifts into the Merchant Navy, only to jump ship in Sri Lanka. Through an American girl there he discovers Buddhism, but decides that he cannot live a righteous life while being supported by her fathers money. In sixties London he becomes briefly an ascetic programmer. Then through an Irish girl, he comes back to boozy earth with a bump. Rejecting her along with the booze he moves into a squat and there rescues a maiden in distress. The mother of his children leads him to a brief rural idyll...
