Die Marchen- und Sagensammlung Norwegische Volksmarchen von Peter Christen Asbjrnsen und Jrgen Moe ist eines der wichtigsten Werke der norwegischen Literatur. Asbjrnsen hatte den Anspruch, die Marchen aller norwegischen Regionen zu sammeln und originalgetreu widerzugeben. Dafur reiste er jahrelang durch ganz Norwegen. Durch seine Marchensammlung in zwei Banden von 1843/44 und 1845-48 leistete Asbjrnsen einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Entwicklung der norwegischen Identitat.
