Beast's Burden

Beasts Burden is the third entry in the Shadows Bastion series.

Months after Król Rzeka was nearly destroyed by its own dragon army, Aurelia and the Shadows are still reeling from the sacrifice made to stop it. Auri, haunted by the spectre of her love, can no longer discern between reality and nightmare. The whole team wrestles with the same question: How could I have changed things?

Tytus finds himself abruptly cut off from the Zuraw family fortune and is forced to travel back to Skala to contend with his spiteful mother, where he finds a harrowing scene: Burgrave Marszalek now rules the city with an iron fist, indiscriminately punishing rich and poor Skalans alike for any perceived offense while claiming to be bettering their lives. Even the Fantazja have been rendered powerless against this one man.

When word reaches the capital, and Auri and the Shadows know theres only one option--they must return to Skala to stop her father while theres still something left to save.

Meanwhile, with Wrona as his reluctant guide, Kasper traverses the vast underworld to beg Veles to destroy the Dragons Heart so it can never be used against Koszalin again. With every step, hes forced to face his past, question his motives, and reckon with the decisions that led him there–all while coming to terms with the fact that hell never see Aurelia or his surrogate family again.

When every decision is impossible, what choices will Shadows Bastion make?
