Equal Temperament

A bitter town council vote. A suspicious death. And a piano that holds the key to murder.

Breckensford is facing its biggest political battle in a century. The towns beloved Corn Exchange concert hall is under threat, and a controversial council vote will decide whether the historic building is sold to a developer.

Everything depends on one woman: Councillor Diana Prowse.

For blind piano tuner Octavia Bird, a visit to Dianas elegant townhouse should be routine. Shes been firmly instructed to keep her opinions to herself and concentrate on tuning the piano.

Three days later, Diana is found dead at the foot of her icy garden steps.

An unfortunate accident—or has someone silenced the deciding vote?

With Breckensford bitterly divided, suspicion falls on Octavias brother Kit, a leading campaigner against the sale. Meanwhile, the developer is hiding something, and a respected cathedral canon has secrets of his own.

Then Dianas widower asks Octavia to value the piano for a quick sale.

And she notices something impossible.

The piano has been moved. But nothing in the room suggests it ever left its place.

With her faithful guide dog Crotchet beside her, Octavia follows a trail of political rivalries, concealed motives, and suspicious alibis.

But the closer she gets to the truth, the more she risks exposing someone she loves—and this time, her instincts may be the only evidence she has.

Someone has gone to extraordinary lengths to conceal what happened in Dianas drawing room. But they overlooked one crucial detail.
