Hush

She came home to bury her brother. She stayed because of the man who refused to let her leave.

Maren Holt arrived at High Lonesome Ranch with a four year old on her hip and two suitcases. The man on the porch said four words. She knew within an hour she should not have come.

Wade Calloway has worked her brothers ranch since the day Cole died. He keeps three secrets locked in a foreman cabin nobody else enters. The first is what really happened to Cole. The second is what Cole wrote down about his sister in the months before. The third is a kind of want Wade has carried in silence for nine years.

Some men talk a woman into wanting them. Wade Calloway just stopped speaking.

She does not yet know what is buried at High Lonesome. By the time she does, she will already be his.

Some promises are meant to stay buried.
