The Seventy Third Second

Before Challengers final flight, Evelyn Mercer receives a maintenance ticket describing a fault that hasnt happened yet.

Six minutes later, it does.

For a timing engineer, the discrepancy should be impossible. Then come the signals, the warnings, and evidence that something inside a classified research program is connecting events that should remain separated by time.

On January 28, 1986, Challenger breaks apart seventy-three seconds after launch. Evie is left with unanswered questions—and a discovery she cannot bring herself to abandon.

Fifteen years later, new evidence points toward an impossible destination: another Earth, where seven astronauts may still be waiting to come home.

Reaching them will require a rescue mission beyond anything NASA has attempted. But the passage between worlds is unstable, the people controlling it have their own priorities, and every delay narrows the chance of return. As Evie approaches the answers she has spent years pursuing, she must confront what the mission could cost the family still waiting for her.

The Seventy Third Second is a science fiction alternate-history novel about grief, responsibility, and the lives that continue beyond a single defining moment.

This novel imagines an alternate outcome to a historical tragedy. The real Challenger disaster claimed all seven crew members.
