Con el Art Nouveau se desarrolló a partir de la década de 1880 un nuevo estilo internacional con diversos nombres en la arquitectura y la artesanía que pretendía sustituir las formas del historicismo por la ornamentación vegetal y la construcción funcional. Una reforma integral de las artes que produjo ricos ornamentos florales en París y Bruselas y se convirtió en expresión de la identidad nacional en Barcelona. Este volumen ilumina los orígenes de esta corriente y sus manifestaciones en Francia, Bélgica y España.

Mit dem Jugendstil entwickelte sich ab den 1880er Jahren unter verschiedenen Namen in der Architektur und im Kunsthandwerk ein neuer, internationaler Stil, der die Formen des Historismus durch Pflanzenornamente und funktionale Konstruktionen zu ersetzen suchte. Eine umfassende Reform der Künste, die in Paris und Brüssel reiche florale Ornamente hervorbrachte und in Barcelona zum Ausdruck der nationalen Identität wurde. With Art Nouveau there developed a new, international style under various names in the architecture and handicrafts from the 1880s onwards that sought to replace the forms of historicism with plant ornamentation and functional construction. A comprehensive reform of the arts that produced rich floral ornaments in Paris and Brussels and became an expression of national identity in Barcelona.
