Liza Klaussmann és descendent de l’autor de Moby Dick, Herman Melville. Va créixer a Nova York, al si d’una família lectora.Per això, va aprendre a llegir i a estimar els llibres de ben petita. Durant més de deu anys, va treballar com a periodista al New York Times, i també de corresponsal de The International Herald Tribune a París. Es va graduar al Barnard College amb estudis d’escriptura creativa, on va rebre el guardó Howerd M. Teichman Prize for Prose. Recentment, ha obtingut el màster en escriptura creativa del Royal Holloway de Londres, on viu. Tigres en un cel vermell és la seva primera novel·la.
