Khalil Gibran

Khalil Gibrán (1883, Bisharri, Líbano-1931, Nueva York) fue un poeta, pintor, novelista y ensayista libanés. Es conocido como “el poeta del exilio”.

Gibran, tras residir unos años en Boston y Massachusetts y aprender y perfeccionar con interés el inglés, en 1898 volvió a Líbano, donde estaría hasta 1902. En Beirut frecuentaba el centro religioso maronita y nacional y aprendió francés, época en la que ya empieza a desarrollar un estilo propio literario elegante y fino, y destacaba su habilidad en el dibujo, que es cuando tiene la idea de escribir un libro, El Profeta, obra que lo definiría como escritor y creador. Esta habilidad con el dibujo lo llevarían a exhibir y exponer en importantes lugares del ámbito internacional, en los que sería elogiado y admirado. Cabe señalar que la obra y el talento de Gibran ya eran reconocidos a nivel mundial y respetado literariamente, pero es a partir de 1925 cuando llega el reconocimiento social y mejoran sus condiciones de vida.

Se puede afirmar que su influencia en artistas de toda índole (música, arte, cinematografía…) y escritores, muchos de ellos considerados de carácter universal, ha sido patente a lo largo de todo final del siglo XX y en la época actual. Gibran ha servido de inspiración a distintas generaciones desde el punto de vista intelectual y de pensamiento.
