David Frawley empezó a estudiar las enseñanzas de Ramana Maharshi en 1970. Desde 1978 colabora habitualmente con la revista The Mountain Path. Es profesor invitado en el Sringeri Shankaracharya Math, el centro vedántico más antiguo de la India, y ha recibido la bendición personal del Shankaracharya. Enseña en diversos centros vedánticos de Estados Unidos y es uno de los pocos occidentales que han sido re-conocidos como auténticos maestros vedánticos por la Vishva Hindu Parishad, la mayor organización religiosa hindú del mundo.
