Sinopsis

Responses of the Health Care System, Hearing Before the Special Committee on Aging, United States Senate, One Hundred Third Congress, Second Session, Bangor, Maine, June 20, 1994The same societal attitudes that tolerate violence in our society also tolerate violence in our homes. We are tragically teaching our children that violent behavior is acceptable and they are, regret tably, learning these lessons very well. This constant exposure to violent behavior has numbed us, and particularly our children and young people, to the actual pain that violence inflicts. We have been conditioned to accept violence as a natural and inevitable part of our lives. The recent well-publicized incident in which a group of junior high school students were laughing at the depiction of a summary execution of a young Jewish woman in the move Schindler s List, I think, is an example of just how desensitized we are becoming. We have already made some progress in the campaign against family violence. To help combat the escalation of violent crime against women, for example, the Senate recently passed the Vio lence Against Women Act which I introduced to address the broad scope of violent crimes against women, both in the streets and in their homes. This legislation is now part of the Omnibus Crime Bill which is pending in conference and hopefully will be voted on with in the next several weeks.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
