INTRODUCTION TO CODING THEORY

Bierbrauer (mathematics, Michigan Technological U.) introduces the mathematical theory of error-correcting codes and its major application areas, such as in statistics, signal processing, and areas of theoretical computer science. His textbook is suitable for a two-semester course that focuses on cyclical codes in the second semester. High school algebra and basic linear algebra are prerequisites, but all other math is built up as the book progresses. Eighteen chapters cover such topics as Singleton bound and Reed- Solomon codes, recursive constructions, universal hashing, asymptotic results, additive codes, and the geometric description of codes.
