The catalogue for the exhibition ‘Montserrat, Mother and Earth’ takes an in-depth look at the phenomenon of collecting devotional objects based on a selection of Montserrat items collected by Frederic Marès and conserved at the museum. The display presents these objects from the collection together with works from other private or public collections. The main article in the catalogue takes an in-depth look at the iconography of the image of the Mare de Déu de Montserrat, in the popular devotional items linked to her worship and at dissemination through works of art, from the 16th century and with a perspective from today’s creation. The second part of the book catalogues the 41 works in the exhibition, accompanying them with the texts from the display.
