Djuna Barnes nació en Cornwall-on-Hudson (Nueva York) en 1892 y murió en Nueva York en 1982. Radicada en París en los años de entreguerras, frecuentó a las principales figuras del arte y la literatura de la época, desde Charles Chaplin y Marcel Duchamp hasta James Joyce, Gertrude Stein, Ezra Pond, Eugene O'Neill, Samuel Beckett, Alexis Carrel o Ernest Hemingway. Es autora de la novela Ryder y de la obra teatral en verso Antiphon además de diversos volúmenes de poesía, ensayo y miscelánea.
