Arthur Miller (Nova York, 1915 – 2005) és un dels autors més influents del teatre estatunidenc del segle xx. Fill d’immigrants jueus polonesos, va créixer en un entorn marcat per les dificultats econòmiques de la Gran Depressió. Entre les seves obres destaquen "Tots eren fills meus" (1947), "La mort d’un viatjant" (1949, guardonada amb un Premi Pulitzer), "Les bruixes de Salem" (1953) i "Panorama des del pont" (1955, també guardonada amb un Premi Pulitzer), que li van permetre expressar a través dels seus personatges l’esperit crític i compromès que sempre el va caracteritzar. Va ser un ferm defensor dels drets civils i va tenir una posició molt crítica amb el maccarthisme, la qual cosa el va portar a ser citat davant del Comitè d’Activitats Antiamericanes. També va escriure novel·les, assaigs i guions de cinema, com és el cas de "The Misfits" (1961).
