The meticulously composed colour panoramas presented by Hans Gasser in this volume, not only depict enormous dunes, fertile oases and bizarre formations of rocks; they also convey the sense of freedom and vastness that the Austrian photographer has found time and again in the great African desert. For a long time now, Gasser has embarked almost every year for the Sahara in his own all-terrain vehicle and in the company of a small group of fellow travellers to create these serene and thoughtful images.
