THE HOLOCAUST: A READER

"The Holocaust: A Reader" is an innovative interdisciplinary resource. Combining primary and secondary sources with editorial narrative, it enables scholars and students to engage critically with current debates about the origins, implementation, and postwar interpretation of the Holocaust. The" Reader" is divided into six chronological sections and contains thematic subsections, each of which can be used by instructors as the basis for oral or written exercises. Oral histories and the testimonies of both victims and perpetrators - from Jewish council leaders, to ghetto and concentration camp victims, to SS officials and German soldiers - are integrated throughout, allowing scholars and students to see how underlying historical attitudes and policies evolved. Secondary sources are selected from the best recent literature on the Holocaust across a range of disciplines. Whole articles or substantial extracts are included wherever possible. This interdisciplinary collection of primary and secondary readings encourages scholars and students to engage critically with current debates about the origins, implementation and postwar interpretation of the Holocaust. Interdisciplinary content encourages students to engage with philosophical, political, cultural and literary debate as well as historiographical issues.
