THE PIECES FROM BERLIN

Sarah Freeman sees a table in an antique shop in Zurich that she recognizes immediately as one she owned before the war--and, as a result, the shop's owner is forced to confront episodes in her own life that she had hoped to forget. The story is told from several points of view, including that of the antique dealer's son, whose memories conflict with hers in several important ways. A New York Times Notable Book for 2003.
