First published in 1988, The Chinese in Canada has remained a provocative account of the history and development of the Chinese-Canadian community. In the second edition, the author has expanded the original historical analysis to include the many changes that have taken place in the Chinese-Canadian community in recent decades. In addition to explaining how and why institutional racism developed against the Chinese, the author offers new insights as to why Canadian society continues to view Chinese-Canadians as foreigners, despite their occupational mobility and financial success.
