Jonathan Maberry (1958) Este novelista, dos veces galardonado con el premio Bram Stoker, también es el autor de varios cuentos, obras de teatro y cómics, e imparte clases de escritura. Su primera novela, Ghost Road Blues, ganó el premio Bram Stoker a la mejor obra novel en 2007. Era el primer volumen de lo que se convertiría en la trilogía de Pine Deep, completada por Dead Mans Song (2007) y Bad Moon Rising (2008). En 2009 inició otra serie de novelas, esta vez basada en la amenaza de una invasión zombi encuadrada en un contexto de bioterrorismo y con una marcada estructura de thriller. Paciente cero es la primera entrega.
