Slavoj Zizek is undoubtedly one of the world’s leading cultural critics. His witty, psychoanalytically-inspired analyses of contemporary society have almost single-handedly revived the notion of ideology. Slavoj Žižek (Liubliana, Eslovenia, 1949) es filósofo, sociólogo, psicoanalista lacaniano, teórico cultural y activista político. Es uno de los ensayistas más prestigiosos y leídos de la actualidad, autor de más de cuarenta libros de filosofía, cine, psicoanálisis, materialismo dialéctico y crítica de la ideología.
Se doctoró en Filosofía y es investigador del Instituto de Estudios Sociales de Liubliana, y profesor visitante en la New School for Social Research de Nueva York. Ha sido invitado a impartir clases en universidades como Université Paris-VIII, SUNY Buffalo, University of Minnesota, Tulane University, New Orleans, Columbia University, New York y Princeton University. Además, es director internacional del Instituto Birkbeck para las Humanidades de la Universidad de Londres.
En 1990 fue candidato a la presidencia de la República de Eslovenia. Además de sus numerosísimos ensayos y artículos para la prensa escrita, en los últimos quince años Žižek ha participado en más de doscientos cincuenta encuentros internacionales sobre filosofía, psicoanálisis y cultura crítica. Žižek es considerado uno de los pensadores críticos más importantes de su generación.
