His feature-film debut was the highly imaginative and raucously funny Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. Since then, Mr. Burton has directed such successful and highly acclaimed films as Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Big Fish and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Mr. Burton still lives in the Los Angeles area and runs his own production company. The Nightmare Before Christmas is the first book that he has written and illustrated.
