Born onto a path of service, Aisling Hawthorns fate has never been of her own creation. A century ago, she gave her life to save her people from the Divide, but the Fates have called upon her again and again. But when she learns she is to bond with the one person who had the power to save her forest and family but hadnt come to their call, she runs.

Unwilling to turn her back on the Fates, Ash accepts the path the Fates have designed for her. She arrives in the City of Dread after two years of hiding behind the walls of Fates Hallow, a place not even Destiny can invade. Holding the jagged shards of whats left of her heart, she comes face to face with her Fated, the one she blames for the death of her kin—Tadgh Darkwood, Commander of the Goyle Army. He is everything she despises. He is arrogant, aggressive, bloodthirsty, and, most of all, a mirror of herself. While Ash struggles to reconcile her new life and the one she was robbed of, she and her new brethren discover the dangers of the Divide are much greater than any had ever known. With a path shaped by nightmares and horrors, Ash plunges into her destiny, abandoning all hope of living through it. But when secrets come to light about the lives she once lived, Ash is torn between duty and desire.
