When an ancient assembly of hearth leaders takes an unexpected turn, a bitter betrayal leaves Pen, the Silver Hearth Matriarch, incapacitated by old trauma. Facing traditionalist elders eager to use ancient laws to dismantle everything she built, Pen is left with no way to defend herself.

Gem isnt about to let the grandparent of his heart be pushed aside. Stepping forward to buy Pen the time she needs to recover, Gem claims succession, triggering a series of traditional hearth challenges to stall the elders.

As the only drakith among dragons at the mountain Aerie, Gem is utterly out of his depth and isolated from his usual support network. To protect Pens freedom and hold the line for the Silver Hearth, he has to navigate a gauntlet of unexpected tests using the only tools he has left: sharp instincts, stubborn loyalty, and sheer rogue audacity.
