Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941) was an Indian poet, novelist, philosopher, composer, and educator. A central figure of the Bengal Renaissance, he reshaped modern Bengali literature and music through his lyrical, spiritual, and deeply humanistic works. In 1913, he became the first non-European writer to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature, awarded for Gitanjali. His vast body of work includes poetry, novels, short stories, essays, plays, and songs, including the national anthems of India and Bangladesh.
