Kate Taylor nació en Francia y creció en Ottawa, aunque fue en Toronto, ciudad en la que reside actualmente, donde estudió Historia e Historia del Arte. Después de hacer un máster en periodismo, comenzó a trabajar en The Globe and Mail, labor por la que fue nominada al National Newspaper Awards y por la que recibió en dos ocasiones el premio Nathan Cohen. En la actualidad escribe una columna sobre arte para ese mismo periódico.
Por su trabajo como escritora ha merecido también varios premios, como el Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best First Book (Canada/Caribbean region), y el City of Toronto Book Award, ambos por Madame Proust y la cocina kosher.
