When The Preacher Rode West
Christian Cross and Saddle Trilogy, #1
Sinopsis
Book 1: When the Preacher Rode West
In the rugged American West of the 1890s, faith can be as difficult to hold onto as the land itself.
When the Preacher Rode West, Book 1 of The Cross and the Saddle Trilogy, begins the story of Father Gabriel Callahan, a young Catholic priest who leaves the familiar world of Boston behind and rides west with a simple calling: serve God, build a church, and bring faith to a remote frontier settlement.
But Willow Creek is nothing like the world he left behind.
It is a rough and isolated community of ranchers, cowboys, widows, drifters, families, lawmen, and men who have learned that survival often comes before forgiveness. There is no church waiting for Father Gabriel, no comfortable rectory, and no congregation eager to welcome him. His first Sunday service must begin humbly, with little more than faith and determination.
Father Gabriel quickly realizes that building a church from timber and nails may be the easiest part of his mission.
The people of Willow Creek carry old grudges, painful losses, buried secrets, and mistakes they would rather forget. Some welcome the young priests presence. Others question whether religion has any place in a town where hardship is an everyday reality. And Silas Crowley, the powerful saloon owner, has little interest in watching a preacher change the town—or the people whose weaknesses have long worked to his advantage.
Yet Father Gabriel refuses to measure a person by his past.
Through prayer, Scripture, compassion, courage, and a willingness to stand beside people during their hardest moments, he begins planting something deeper than the foundation of a church. Slowly, Willow Creek begins to discover what grace, forgiveness, sacrifice, and second chances can mean.
The frontier will test Father Gabriel as much as it tests those he hopes to serve. He must learn when to speak, when to listen, when to stand firm, and when to place circumstances beyond his control into Gods hands.
As relationships form and the little community begins to change, the church becomes a symbol of something many in Willow Creek thought they had lost long ago:
Hope.
When the Preacher Rode West combines the rugged atmosphere of a traditional Western with an uplifting Christian story in which Catholic faith is woven naturally into frontier life. It is a story of ordinary people facing difficult choices, discovering unexpected grace, and learning that no one is beyond redemption.
This is where Father Gabriels journey begins—and where the story of Willow Creek takes root.
