Awarded three Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star for bravery in Vietnam, he faced a whole different enemy when returned home from the war to clean up the blight across the creek from the scene of his childhood - Bluebird Road. Sheriff Ashe has been re-elected term after term for a total of four remarkable decades.
