The first edition of this book described a city in the early stages of transformation following the demise of the Wall and reunification. Berlin was then the largest building site in Europe and the centre of an international debate on urban development . The world’s leading architects – among them Jean Nouvel, Norman Foster, Josef Kleihues, Rem Koolhaas, Frank Gehry, Hans Kollhoff, Moore, Ruble, Yudell, Dominique Perrault, Richard Rogers, Renzo Piano and Shin Takamatsu – were queuing up to leave their mark on the place.
