Katherine Paterson nació en China en 1932 aunque sus padres, misioneros, pronto regresaron a EE.UU. Estudió Filología inglesa y, tras graduarse, trabajó cuatro años como misionera en Japón. Escribió su primera novela durante un curso de escritura creativa para adultos. Su obra más conocida es Un puente hasta Terabithia, aunque toda su obra goza de una gran aceptación por parte de crítica y público.
