REMARKS OF THE HON.

Stephen a Douglas, on Kansas, Utah, and the Dred Scott Decision, Delivered at Springfield, Illinois, June 12th, 1857Jllr President, Ladies and Gentlemen I appear before you to-night, at the request of the Grand Jury in attendance upon the United States Court, for the purpose of submitting my views upon certain topics upon which they have expressed a desire to hear me. It was not my purpose, when I arrived among you, to have engaged in any public or political discussion, but when called upon by a body of gentlemen so intelligent and respectable, coming from all parts of the State, and connected with the administration of public justice, 1 do not feel at liberty to withhold a full and frank expression of my Opinion upon the subjects to which they have referred, and which now engross so large a share of the public attention.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
