What we experienced is a vast and fascinating country of boundless beauty. We saw many things, so many places and people, and regret we couldnt have seen more.. After an unexpected layoff from his position as the sole remaining staff reporter/editor in New England for United Press International, author David D. Haskell and his wife, Ethel M. Haskell, a retired nursing assistant and two-time cancer survivor, decide to make the trip of a lifetime. Both over sixty-five years old and with no deadlines to meet, the Haskells spend two months driving around the United States. Along the way, they take in many magnificent sights and visit friends and relatives, camping in a tent when convenient. From the largest and most beautiful trees in the world at Redwood National Park in California to the Long Branch Saloon in Dodge City, Kansas, the Haskells two-month adventure is filled with Americana.
