October 1981October 1 acreage available for production of 14 major fresh-market vegetables is estimated to be 5 percent less than last year. Based on average yields for the past 3 years, output is projected at million cwt, 6 percent less than a year earlier.This fall, all leading fresh vegetable crops will be small, except broccoli, which has 5 percent larger acreage, and cabbage, which has the same acreage as in 1980. Among the processing vegetables, contracted acreage for snap beans, beets, green peas, winter and spring spinach, and tomatoes declined.
