Emily Brontë (1818-1848) fue una destacada novelista y poetisa británica de la época victoriana, conocida principalmente por la novela Cumbres Borrascosas, considerada un clásico de la literatura universal.Nació en 1818 en Thornton, Yorkshire. Fue la quinta de seis hermanos y creció en la rectoría de Haworth, un entorno aislado rodeado de páramos que influyó profundamente en su obra. Tras la muerte de su madre cuando tenía tres años, fue criada principalmente por su padre y una tía. Junto a sus hermanas Charlotte y Anne, y su hermano Branwell, desarrolló desde niña un mundo imaginario a través de escritos y juegos creativos. Al igual que sus hermanas, publicó bajo un nombre masculino, Ellis Bell, para evitar los prejuicios de la época contra las mujeres escritoras. Murió de tuberculosis en 1848, a los 30 años, sin llegar a ver el éxito masivo de su obra. Su vida ha fascinado a generaciones por el contraste entre su existencia aparentemente tranquila y la fuerza salvaje de su literatura.
