Sin and redemption. Two football players visit The Block in Baltimore. They meet a fortune teller, con men and exotic dancers from The Club. When a dancer overdoses on drugs, they hunt the drug dealer. Later, they handicap horses at the track.The Hawk, manager of The Club, may have rigged a race, but which one? He is seen with a local Bookie at the track. The first Tiny and Big Shorty novel.

Joe Lucas meets some memorable characters, including Delta Slim, Freight Train Lizzie, Irish Mick and Cincinnati Bill, when he hops a Southern Pacific freight train known as The Midnight Ghost. They feel threatened by an unidentified serial killer, whose attacks are apparently random. A violent renegade hippy is the main suspect. Complications develop when the loot from an armored car robbery near the freight yards disappears.

1. The Block is a novella. Billy Parker is a nightclub bouncer on The Block in Baltimore, Maryland. Friction develops between his wife Sue and his girlfriend Sparkle. His wife has additional troubles when she is targeted by a stalker. When Billy finds himself short of funds, he becomes involved in a dubious scheme with Fast Eddie, which attracts the police. 2. Double Blackmail. Joe Lucas stakes out the ransom payment, when a Senators daughter is blackmailed for her adventurous past. The trail leads to counter culture types in Washington, D. C. 3. The Twins is a short story. Sues husband is jailed and she loses custody of her twin sons. She gets a divorce and goes to court, seeking their return.

A counter culture type named Vesuvius purchases a run down "fixer upper" of a farm near Murdock, North Carolina. Police detectives suspect him of criminal motives and launch an investigation. They place the farm under surveillance. Meanwhile, a nefarious villain known as The Hawk returns to rustle cattle in the area. Some of the cattle are in questionable condition. when he sells them to an unscrupulous slaughter house. The Hawk has secretly stashed ill-gotten loot on the formerly abandoned farm and Vesuvius is in the way when he decides to retrieve it. The Hawk and his gang also begin watching the farm, in order to recover their loot. Big Shorty, Tiny, Mark and the girls pay Vesuvius a visit and help him repair the deteriorated farm buildings. They must battle a wild fire that threatens to destroy the farm. A load of black market goods is hijacked from unsavory neighbors and The Hawk takes to the air, as he has done in the past. He becomes involved in an aerial duel with the pilot of a fighter jet who accosts him in restricted air space.

Montana Slim plays Seven Card Stud in Las Vegas. A player fills a longshot draw to an inside straight and is accused of hand mucking. He responds with uncanny stories which put the other players on tilt, as well as the casino management. A proposition bet and a series of escalating arguments cause an official inquiry involving truth serum, hypnosis and expert interrogation techniques.

Vicki is first repelled and then intrigued when an unusual clerk is hired in Hellmans Department Store. He tells interesting stories about college hijinks, Las Vegas Blackjack, card counting, poker, Tai Chi and the Chinese internal system. He discusses the counterculture, The Manhattan Project and Desert gold. Store Security investigates. Vicki must also contend with a rookie assistant manager

The third Tiny and Big Shorty novel. They rent a beach cottage on the Outer Banks. While they are hang gliding, The Hawk returns for revenge. His partner, The Ace, boils nitro to demolish Saltys Emporium. Three Coast Guardsmen search for the treasure, while Detectives Murdock and Fenwick must solve an unexplained blast. The Hawk continues his penchant for wild driving. He will stop at nothing.

A group of high school seniors competes to see who can make it down a dangerous mountain road in the fastest time. They disrupt their school with a series of pranks and run the Vice Principal off the road into a fountain. Their antics end when a Judge sentences them to jail or The Marines. They choose The Marines and are assigned to one of the most brutal and sadistic Drill Instructors in the history of Parris Island.

The second Tiny and Big Shorty novel. They camp on The Outer Banks of North Carolina. When a "Riptide" traps two people, they meet some of the locals and two female twins. A map from Saltys Emporium shows the location of Blackbeards Treasure, but the barrier islands have shifted position since then. They must deal with sharks, The Coast Guard and the villainous Hawk in a quest for treasure.

Vicki meets Tiny, Big Shorty and their girlfriends. Merchandise, money and jewels are disappearing from Hellmans Department Store, where Vicki works. Shoplifters may be involved. Vicki and her friends explore a hidden tunnel to investigate. They also go to the race track, where crooks sabotage the favorites in a stakes race. The Stewards conduct an inquiry. Should Vicki tell what she knows?
