Paul Cartledge (Londres, 1947) es historiador, experto en historia griega, con especial interés en Atenas y Esparta. Comenzó su carrera académica en el Trinity College de Dublín y en la Universidad de Warwick, pero ha sido sobre todo profesor en la Universidad de Cambridge, donde ha ocupado la cátedra A. G. Leventis de Cultura Griega. Además de Democracia: Una historia, es autor de obras como Alejandro Magno; Termópilas: La batalla que cambió el mundo; Los espartanos o Los griegos.
