Sinopsis
Charles Whitmore has spent most of his life making decisions. Big ones. Decisions about companies, jobs, money, and futures. He learned long ago that hesitation is expensive, emotion has no place at the negotiating table, and a good deal requires one thing above all else: resolve.
Frank Bennett once made decisions too. He used to run a successful construction company. He had a family, a home, and a place in the world.
Now, almost everything he owns fits inside a shopping cart.
His pride does not.
When the two men, both well into their eighties, meet by chance on a rainy day in Pittsburgh, there is little reason to believe they will ever become friends. Charles is wealthy, controlled, and accustomed to being listened to. Frank is sharp-tongued, suspicious, and determined never to be anyones object of pity.
But one cup of coffee becomes breakfast.
An argument becomes a conversation.
And slowly, two men who have spent much of their lives avoiding the things they cannot fix begin to form a friendship neither of them expected.
As Charles is forced to look more closely at the decisions that built his success, Franks daughter Kate is fighting a different battle: protecting her son Eli from learning that anger and fear are the same things as strength.
At the same time, Charless own family begins to fracture under the weight of expectations passed quietly from one generation to the next.
Then a name from the past appears.
A name that connects Charles and Frank in a way neither man is prepared for.
Suddenly, the question is no longer who was right.
It is what responsibility means when an apology is not enough.
Whether you can care for someone without forgiving them.
And whether there comes a point when it is simply too late to do something differently.
