Levitations | eBook
Sinopsis
Nothing usually happens in the small town of Leefield, New England. A post-industrial wasteland populated by burnouts and weirdos, its only point of interest is an asteroid buried in its earth: once the centre of a new-age cult and now the site of a shady corporate mine. Its here that a local boy disappears, and his best friend has a bizarre and terrifying experience: he starts levitating.
As the town is flooded by investors, grifters and conspiracy theorists obsessed with the mines space rocks, opposing interpretations of the levitation collide. Theres Durdo, the washed-up Marxist academic, whos set on harnessing this mysterious force; and Jem, a chain-smoking teenager in search of his lost friend, whos convinced the mine must be destroyed. In the middle of it all is Frankiette, a disillusioned activist who drifted into Leefield in search of change, only to come up against the same old problems in a world gone to hell.
With an expansive vision that telescopes between celestial bodies and microscopic bugs, Levitations is an electrifyingly imaginative debut about the struggle for meaning in a dying world.
