Paul Andrew Hutton es un historiador cultural y militar estadounidense, autor galardonado, escritor de documentales y personalidad televisiva. También es profesor distinguido de Historia en la University of New Mexico, exdirector ejecutivo de la Western History Association y expresidente de Western Writers of America. Nació en Fráncfort, Alemania, y fue adoptado de niño por una pareja de la American Air Force. Criado por todo el mundo, en Alemania, Inglaterra y Taiwán, así como en Texas e Indiana, se formó en la Indiana University. Obtuvo su doctorado en historia estadounidense en 1981 y ha enseñado tanto en la Utah State University (1977-1985) como en la University of New Mexico (1985-presente). Ha ganado seis veces el premio Western Writers of America Spur y seis veces el premio Western Heritage del National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. Su primer libro, Phil Sheridan and His Army, recibió el premio Billington de la Organization of American Historians, el premio Evans Biography y el premio Spur. También es editor de Western Heritage (2011), Roundup (2010), Frontier and Region (1997), The Custer Reader (1992), Soldiers West (1987) y de la serie de diez volúmenes Bantam Eyewitness to the Civil War (1991-1993). Ha aparecido en más de 300 programas de televisión en History Channel, Discovery, PBS, NBC, CBS, BBC, Fox y otras cadenas y ha escrito una docena de documentales para televisión y parques nacionales y estatales. También ejerció de consultor histórico en películas de Hollywood como The Missing (2003), Cowboys and Aliens (2010) y Jane Got a Gun (2016) e incluso hizo un cameo en Naked Gun 33 1/3 de David Zucker (1994). Tiene cinco hijos: Laura, Caitlin, Lorena, Chelsea y Paul Andy, y vive en Albuquerque con su esposa Tracy y los cachorros Bucky O’Neil y Annie Oakley.
