Although there are parts of the book that can be interesting and useful, and it does a good job of giving visibility to autistic people from different racial backgrounds or gender identities, the author seems intent on portraying autism as one of the best things that can happen to a person, something that should be embraced, celebrated, and advocated for. He also suggests that all of the difficulties autistic people face stem from a society that fails to understand us and it is them who must adjust to us. In doing so, he overlooks the fact that autism exists on a spectrum and that there are intrinsic aspects of the condition that can have a negative impact on a person's life and on those around them, regardless of how much external support they receive. Frankly, I found this approach rather frivolous. Also, the book devotes most of its attention to the experiences of minority groups, especially LGBT people (a community to which the author belongs, ahem), and this often distracts from the main subject. Overall, I would recommend other books on autism rather than this one.
