John Brockman (Boston, 1941) es un empresario cultural con una amplia trayectoria en el mundo del arte de vanguardia, la ciencia, el mundo editorial, el software e internet. En la década de 1960, acuñó la palabra «intermedia» y aplicó el concepto «entorno cinético intermedia» al arte, el teatro y el comercio, mientras asesoraba a clientes como General Electric, Columbia Pictures, el Pentágono y la Casa Blanca. Más tarde fundó la agencia literaria Brockman, Inc., especializada en libros de no ficción. Es, además, fundador y editor de Edge.org, un sitio web dedicado a discusiones científicas en las que participan los pensadores más brillantes del mundo, los líderes de lo que él ha llamado la «Tercera Cultura».
